Bhubaneswar, March 10 -- A female elephant died on Tuesday after consuming an explosive-laced bait allegedly placed for hunting wild boar in Odisha's Dhenkanal district. The tragic incident has raised serious concerns over illegal hunting practices and wildlife safety in the region.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a forest near Pipala village in the Jiral Forest Section of Dhenkanal district. Locals discovered the carcass of the female elephant in the forest area, triggering concern.

As per sources, the explosive bait was reportedly set up to trap wild boars. However, the elephant is believed to have consumed the explosive substance, which led to severe injuries and eventually resulted in its deteriorating health.
