Bhubaneswar, Sept. 2 -- Farmers have alleged that fertiliser was sold above the government-fixed price at the Bartana Service Cooperative Society in Khaira block of Odisha's Balasore district. Some farmers also complained that they were given fake fertiliser, prompting an inspection by officials.

The Khaira tehsildar, BDO, Assistant Agriculture Officer and ARCS visited the society and checked the complaints. During the inspection, officials found that some farmers had been charged more than the prescribed price, while some had allegedly not been given receipts.

The society secretary, Akshaya Kumar Rout, said there was no proof yet that the fertiliser was fake.
