India, Aug. 3 -- In a tragic incident, a farmer drowned in floodwaters while inspecting his flooded paddy field in Odisha's Bhadrak. The farmer has been identified as Abhimanyu Mallick, a resident of Sudarshanpur village under Basudevpur police limits. Even as floodwaters gradually begin to recede in several parts of the state, the tragic death of the farmer has raised serious concerns on the aftermath of floods.

According to sources, Mallick left his home early on Monday morning after the floodwater level dropped slightly. Hoping to assess the condition of his paddy nursery, he parked his bicycle and left his slippers on the roadside before crossing the Dubanali canal to reach his farmland.
