Bhubaneswar, June 21 -- Police have registered a case against a student, identified as Biswajit Jena, in connection with the alleged suicide of a girl student of a private engineering college under the jurisdiction of Golanthara Police Station near Berhampur in Odisha's Ganjam district.

A case has been registered against Biswajit under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the abetment of suicide. According to reports, Biswajit Jena is the nephew of Odisha's Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena.

As per the complaint lodged by the deceased student's maternal uncle, Biswajit was also a final-year BCA student at the same college. The two were reportedly in a romantic relationship.
