Bhubaneswar, Sept. 10 -- A tusker was killed after being hit by a train engine on the Bissamcuttack-Therubali railway line in Rayagada on Wednesday. The accident reportedly took place late at night. The elephant's carcass was later found around three-metre away from the railway track.

On being informed about the incident, Railway Police and Forest Department personnel reached the spot and were inspecting the area at the time of reporting. An elephant squad had also reached the site.

According to information, since the carcass was lying in a sloping area near the track and not on the railway line, train services were not affected.
