Elephant calf falls into pit in Sundargarh forest, rain hampers rescue
Bhubaneswar, Aug. 13 -- An elephant calf fell into a pit in a forest near Goppur, close to Hamirpur, under the Sundargarh Sadar Forest Range in Odisha. The Forest Department launched efforts to rescue the calf amid continuous rain in the area.
As per reports, a special Forest Department team reached the spot and is monitoring the situation. Officials were also using a drone to track the movement of elephants around the area, at the time of reporting.
A mother elephant was seen staying near the spot and was keeping watch over the calf. The elephant calf was making loud noises at intervals.
The presence of the adult elephants was also taken into account during the rescue operation.
