Bhubaneswar, Oct. 28 -- Elderly pension beneficiaries staged a protest in front of the Raighar block office in Nabarangpur district of Odisha over the non-payment of their pensions for the past four to five months.

The beneficiaries said they depend on the money to buy medicines and meet their daily expenses. The delay has made it difficult for them to manage their basic needs.

Laxmi Sunani, a pension beneficiary questioned the delay and said some elderly people had no family members to depend on.

"The BJD government used to give us Rs 500 as pension, which was later increased to Rs 1,000. Why is the BJP government not giving us our pension? It has been months since we received the money. Not everyone has a family to take care of them....
