Bhubaneswar, Oct. 22 -- One person died and two others went missing after a boat capsized while crossing the Kharasrota river in Odisha's Jajpur district around 8:30 am on Thursday.

The incident occurred near Gandakul village under Jajpur Sadar police limits when the passengers were returning after visiting a Durga Puja celebration on Wednesday.

Two women, Hemalata Dalei and Bhama Dalei, were rescued and taken to hospital, where one of them was declared dead.

"An eight-year-old boy and a 20-year-old youth remain missing. Fire service personnel are searching for them in the river," said a local.

Amar Dalei, a relative of the deceased, said four members of his family were travelling on the boat.
