Bhubaneswar, March 15 -- The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled a well-organised gold smuggling network operating between Kolkata and Delhi. The crackdown led to the seizure of gold, silver and cash valued at more than Rs 14.13 crore, while six individuals allegedly linked to the racket have been arrested.
According to officials, the group was involved in illegally bringing foreign-origin gold into the country, transporting it via rail routes, and processing it at unauthorised melting units to erase identifying marks before selling it in the domestic bullion market.
During the operation, authorities confiscated 8,286.81 grams of gold worth about Rs 13.41 crore, 7,350.4 grams of silver valued at Rs19.67 lakh, and Rs...
