Bhubaneswar, May 12 -- Forest Department officials successfully rescued an elephant calf that had fallen into a trench near Nuasahi Nuapada under the Pampasar forest range in Angul following a nearly four-hour-long rescue operation on Tuesday morning.
The rescued calf was later reunited with its herd. It safely returned to the nearby forest, bringing relief to forest officials and local residents who had gathered near the site during the operation.
According to sources, the incident occurred while a herd of elephants was passing through the area when the baby elephant accidentally slipped into a trench that had reportedly been dug earlier by the Forest Department.
