Bhubaneswar, June 8 -- A mother and daughter duo were allegedly murdered in a gruesome incident at Khadiapada in Giripali area of Sambalpur late on Sunday night.

The victims were reportedly sleeping in the courtyard of their house when they were attacked and killed. Preliminary investigation suggests that the killings were carried out in an extremely brutal manner.

The deceased woman's son was on his way back home after receiving news of the incident.

As per reports, a youth from a neighbouring house is suspected for the double murder. Police were questioning the neighbour at the time of reporting.

It is suspected that the murders were likely planned and linked to an earlier dispute, though officials did not confirm any motive.
