Bhubaneswar, April 12 -- In a major move aimed at enhancing efficiency and ensuring transparency in toll operations, the Centre has implemented 100% digital toll collection across all National Highway fee plazas from April 10, 2026. Payments are now being accepted exclusively through FASTag and Unified Payments Interface (UPI), eliminating cash transactions at toll booths.

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce congestion at toll plazas, improve vehicle turnaround time and minimize disputes related to manual cash handling. Officials said the shift to a fully digital system will also help in better revenue tracking and curb leakages, while offering a seamless travel experience to commuters across the national highway network....
