Decades after independence, Balasore villagers still risk lives crossing river as bridge project stalls
Bhubaneswar, May 14 -- Governments have changed over the years in Odisha, but the hardships faced by people in several villages of Balasore district remain unchanged. Even more than 70 years after Independence, residents are still compelled to risk their lives by travelling in unsafe country boats, which continue to serve as the only lifeline for thousands.
People from around 11 panchayats, located nearly 35 km from Balasore Sadar subdivision, continue to struggle due to the absence of a proper bridge over the Dubudubi river situated between Kasafal and Alumeda panchayats.
