Bhubaneswar, June 30 -- A gang of impostors posing as fake CBI officers and running a cyber fraud racket through social media and phone calls has been busted by Rourkela Police.

The accused allegedly carried out 'digital arrest' scams by intimidating victims with threats of arrest and fake legal action, forcing them to transfer large sums of money.

Police said the gang operated across eight states in India and targeted unsuspecting people by impersonating law enforcement officials. Victims were reportedly put under severe psychological pressure, leading to extortion running into lakhs and even crores of rupees.
