Bhubaneswar, March 23 -- A fire broke out in a passenger bus on the Cuttack-Paradip road on Monday morning, triggering panic among commuters. The incident took place near Bhutamundai, where passengers had a narrow escape after smoke was noticed coming from the vehicle.

According to initial information, the bus was en route from Paradip to Cuttack when the incident occurred. All passengers are reported to be safe.

Sources said thick smoke started billowing from the engine area, prompting the driver to immediately halt the bus. More than thirty passengers quickly deboarded the vehicle in fear as the situation escalated.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, though further details are awaited.
