Bhubaneswar, Oct. 26 -- Vehicles travelling in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's convoy collided on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district on Monday.

However, Rahul Gandhi's car was not involved in the collision and remained safe, according to initial information.

The incident occurred near the 89.5-kilometre mark of the expressway, within the jurisdiction of Haliyapur police station.

The vehicles involved were travelling behind Gandhi's car when the collision took place.

Rahul Gandhi was travelling from Lucknow to Sultanpur to appear before a special MP/MLA court, which was scheduled to deliver its verdict in a 2018 criminal defamation case against him.
