Bhubaneswar, May 2 -- Concerns over passenger safety in Chilika lake in Odisha have intensified following the recent boat tragedy in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, prompting renewed focus on precautionary measures in the lagoon.
Past incidents have also raised questions over safety compliance, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
In June 2018, six lives were lost in Chilika due to a Kalbaisakhi storm. A similar incident was reported in 2022, when a boat capsized, resulting in the death of one person. These incidents have underscored the need for strict adherence to safety protocols for passengers travelling on boats in the region.
