Bhubaneswar, March 23 -- In a significant archaeological development, a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey has indicated the presence of a buried heritage city beneath Puri, the sacred land of Lord Jagannath. The findings came to light during and after excavation work linked to the Srimandir Parikrama Project.
Initial discoveries were made during excavation near the Jagannath Temple, where remnants believed to date back to the Ganga dynasty period were unearthed. Following this, a detailed GPR survey was conducted, revealing the presence of extensive subsurface structures across the temple town.
