Bolangir's forgotten power house: Before Odisha's power story took shape, this 1911 landmark lit up the town
Bhubaneswar, Sept. 10 -- Bolangir's historic power house, established in 1911 during the reign of the former Patna Maharaja, is now at the centre of demands for preservation after years of neglect. The power house was among the early facilities that supplied electricity in the town, but the building and several items associated with its history now lie in a neglected state.
The power house was established near the old bus stand in Bolangir in 1911. The then Maharaja of Patna, Prithviraj Singh Deo, brought three generators from Germany and set up the facility.
Electricity generated at the power house was supplied to the hospital and the palace. The facility also supplied electricity for street lights in the town at night.
