Bhubaneswar, May 26 -- Allegations of custodial torture surfaced against personnel of Baranga police station in Cuttack after the husband of a missing woman was reportedly hospitalised in a critical condition on Monday. He was reported detained for several days and questioned by police.

Family members of Rakesh Behera alleged that he was subjected to third-degree torture after police linked him to the death of a woman whose body was recovered from the Kathajodi riverbed. The family however maintained that the deceased was not his missing wife.

The allegations triggered protests outside the police station, with additional police personnel deployed amid tensions in the area.
