Bhubaneswar, June 1 -- A fresh twist has surfaced in the alleged custodial torture case involving Baranga Police Station, raising new questions over the circumstances under which detainee Rakesh Behera sustained serious injuries.

Amid allegations that Rakesh was subjected to 'third-degree' torture while in police custody, documents and reports have now pointed to a purported road accident as the cause of his injuries. According to available records, Rakesh Behera allegedly sustained injuries after falling from a motorcycle on May 23.

The records further indicate that he was admitted to Med X Hospital on the night of May 24 and was subsequently shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on May 25 for advanced treatment.
