Bhubaneswar, May 5 -- A branch manager of the Koraput Central Co-operative Bank in Odisha's Malkangiri district was arrested on Saturday on charges of alleged misappropriation of government funds exceeding Rs 1 crore, officials said.
According to Vigilance authorities, the accused was charged with embezzling crop loan funds deposited by farmers. The alleged irregularities pertain to financial transactions linked to five Large Area Multi-Purpose Societies (LAMPS) operating under Malkangiri district.
The funds in question were reportedly deposited by farmers as part of crop loan repayments, which were subsequently misappropriated, leading to financial discrepancies.
