Bhubaneswar, Feb. 25 -- A banana warehouse was gutted in a major fire that broke out at Phandi Chhak near Sahadev Khunta police station in Odisha's Balasore late Tuesday night.

Goods worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

According to information, the fire started suddenly in the warehouse late at night. The blaze spread within a short span, engulfing the stored stock inside the premises.

Local sources reported that flames and smoke were noticed from the warehouse, following which the matter was brought to the attention of the authorities. The exact circumstances under which the fire began was not established at the time of reporting.
