Balasore 'Blue Lake' turns into death trap, claims over 10 lives; questions over safety at spot
India, Aug. 24 -- The scenic 'Blue Lake' in Nilgiri of Odisha's Balasore district has turned into a death trap, with more than 10 people allegedly losing their lives at the abandoned quarry over the past decade. The latest tragedy claimed the lives of two students who drowned while bathing at the site last Saturday, once again raising questions over the safety of the spot.
Three friends had reportedly gone to the quarry to bathe when two Plus Two Commerce students of Fakir Mohan College, Bhabyas Patra and Anshuman Patra, drowned. Their bodies were recovered after a 24-hour rescue operation. The depth and dangerous terrain of the quarry made the rescue operation particularly challenging.
