Bhubaneswar, June 28 -- The Orissa High Court directed a public sector bank to pay Rs 20 lakh each as lump sum compensation to two daily-wage sweepers, bringing an end to their 27-year-long legal battle over regularisation of service.

According to a report by the Times Of India, the Division Bench of Justices Krishna S. Dixit and Chittaranjan Dash passed the order on June 23, with the web copy of the judgment released on June 25. The appeals were filed by Mayadhar Nayak and Baina Nayak, challenging a single judge's June 20, 2025, order dismissing their plea for regularisation.
