15-million-year-old fossils of Shark discovered in Odisha's Baripada, hints at ancient marine presence
Bhubaneswar, June 18 -- A significant fossil discovery was made in Baripada town in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, where remains estimated to be around 15 million years old were unearthed. The fossils were identified by Dr Debabrata Nandi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Remote Sensing and GIS at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada.
The findings include large fossil remains believed to be associated with a shark, making the discovery an important development for understanding the region's geological and ecological history. Experts and palaeontologists from various fossil research institutions have been contacted to examine the remains in greater detail.
