Bhubaneswar, April 9 -- The demand for a metro rail project in Bhubaneswar once again gained traction, with city Mayor Sulochana Das strongly advocating on Thursday for its implementation. She stated that a metro system is essential for the growing urban infrastructure of the State Capital and questioned why the project was halted despite initial progress.

Speaking on the issue, Mayor Das said that while metro projects are operational in several cities across the country, it remains unclear why Bhubaneswar's project was discontinued. She emphasised that a metro system is crucial for a "Bikashita Odisha" and reiterated the need to revisit the decision.
