Guwahati, July 14 -- Veteran Assamese actress Purabi Sarma died after suffering a cardiac arrest in Guwahati on Tuesday evening. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Her mortal remains are being brought to her residence at Shantipur, where family members, friends, colleagues and admirers are expected to pay their last respects.

One of the most recognised faces of Assamese cinema, Sarma built a career spanning several decades with acclaimed performances in films and television. She made her film debut with Ajoli Nabou, while one of her early films, Ragini, went on to receive a National Award.
