India, March 10 -- A court in Tripura's Dhalai district on Monday sentenced a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan to life imprisonment for opening fire at a security post in 2013, killing two of his colleagues and injuring several others.
The Sessions Judge's Court at Ambassa convicted Bijoy Debbarma (47), son of Manindra Debbarma of Khasiapunji under Salema police station, in connection with the firing incident at a TSR post in Tankarai under Longtharai Valley subdivision.
Court officials said the accused was found guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life along with a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months of rigorous i...
