Tinsukia businessmen receive extortion letters in ULFA(I) name, outfit denies involvement
Guwahati, Aug. 29 -- Around 10 businessmen in Doomdooma, Assam's Tinsukia district, have reportedly received extortion letters allegedly issued in the name of ULFA-I, triggering concern among the local business community.
The letters reportedly carry the names and purported signatures of ULFA-I finance secretary Lt Gen Michael Asom and assistant finance secretary Major Abhimanyu Asom.
Following receipt of the letters, the affected businessmen approached the police and lodged complaints. Police have initiated an inquiry into the matter and are investigating the origin of the letters.
