Guwahati, May 9 -- After the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) received unconditional support from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), actor-turned-politician Vijay overcome the last obstacle in his attempt to become Tamil Nadu's next chief minister on Saturday.
The TVK-led alliance now has 121 MLAs, more than the 118-member majority needed to form the government in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, due to the backing of the two parties that each won two seats in the Assembly election.
The backing came after days of uncertainty, during which Vijay was unable to demonstrate majority support in three separate meetings with the Governor over the past three days.
