Guwahati, July 22 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to grant an urgent hearing on a petition seeking action against the alleged police crackdown on students during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led march in Delhi.

The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana.

Seeking an early listing, the petitioner's counsel told the court that students had allegedly faced police brutality during the protest and urged the bench to take up the matter on Thursday.

The lawyer also informed the bench that the petition contained three prayers and that video footage of the incident was available.
