SC directs panel to verify claims of 24,000 Manipur violence-affected families awaiting relief
Guwahati, Aug. 11 -- The Supreme Court has asked a court-appointed committee headed by former High Court Chief Justice Gita Mittal to verify claims that around 24,000 families affected by the 2023 Manipur ethnic violence are yet to receive rehabilitation and welfare assistance.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana was hearing petitions related to the rehabilitation of people who lost their homes, properties and livelihoods during the violence.
The bench took note of the steps taken by the government to rehabilitate affected families, including financial assistance provided to more than 4,000 beneficiaries from around 7,000 families identified for house reconstruction.
