Padma Bhushan awardee singer Suman Kalyanpur dies at 89
Guwahati, May 31 -- Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur, one of the most celebrated voices in Indian music, passed away on Sunday at the age of 89.
The Padma Bhushan awardee was known for her melodious and versatile singing career that spanned several decades, leaving an indelible mark on Hindi, Marathi and numerous other regional language music traditions.
Expressing grief over her demise, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar described the loss as "extremely heartbreaking" and paid tribute to her immense contribution to Indian music.
In a post on X, Pawar said Kalyanpur enriched the world of Indian music with her "sweet, melodious and soul-stirring voice".
