Dimapur, Sept. 29 -- An advocate from Kolkata has approached the National Green Tribunal's Eastern Zone Bench, challenging the Nagaland government's decision to set up a Greenfield airport near Chiethu in Kohima district and seeking a fresh assessment of the project's technical and ecological feasibility.

The petition, filed by advocate Sanjita Sarkar on September 23, seeks directions to maintain status quo at the proposed site and restrain the Union civil aviation ministry and the Nagaland government from proceeding with construction until the environmental and technical concerns raised in the application are considered.

The application was filed under Sections 18(1), 14, 15, 16 and 17 of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010.
