Manipur, April 21 -- Tension flared in Manipur on Tuesday after incidents of stone-pelting were reported between Naga and Kuki groups on the first day of a three-day shutdown in Naga-inhabited areas of the state.

The shutdown was called by the United Naga Council (UNC) in coordination with the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur from midnight on April 20. The protest was launched over the killing of two Naga civilians at TM Kasom along National Highway-202, the Imphal-Ukhrul road, on April 18.

On the first day of the shutdown, tension erupted between Changoubung Kuki villagers and residents of T. Khullen over enforcement of the bandh. Additional security personnel were rushed to the area to maintain law and order.
