Mizoram's lone medical college performs first successful open-heart surgery
Aizawl, Aug. 21 -- Doctors at the state-run Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMC&H) have performed Mizoram's first open-heart surgery at the state's lone medical college, hospital officials said on Thursday.
A team led by resident cardiothoracic surgeon Mary Hmingthantluangi and Intekhab Alam from Apollo Excel Hospital in Guwahati performed coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on a 69-year-old patient with triple-vessel disease.
The patient had suffered a heart attack about six months ago and was subsequently diagnosed with triple-vessel disease, a severe form of coronary artery disease involving blockages in three major coronary arteries.
