India, March 8 -- The Mizoram Legislative Assembly is set to deliberate on a resolution seeking the inclusion of the Mizo language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

Officials of the Assembly Secretariat said the resolution will be moved on Monday, March 9, by School Education Minister Vanlalthlana shortly after the Question Hour during the ongoing session.

The proposed resolution is aimed at strengthening efforts to secure constitutional recognition for the Mizo language by including it in the Eighth Schedule, which lists India's officially recognised languages.

Mizo serves as the lingua franca among various Mizo tribes and communities and functions as a key unifying language across the state.
