Aizawl, Sept. 23 -- National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Special Rapporteur Sayeed Ahmed Baba on Tuesday stressed the need for greater public awareness of human rights and adequate counselling and de-addiction facilities for people affected by substance abuse, particularly youngsters.

Addressing a meeting with heads of government departments in Saitual district, Baba said the NHRC was established to protect and promote the human rights of every individual, according to official sources.

He also emphasised the responsibility of government officials, whose work directly affects people's lives and well-being, to ensure that their rights are respected and protected.
