Aizawl: Eight women were arrested for possessing 352 grams of heroin worth Rs 70 lakh in a series of operations in eastern Mizoram's Champhai district on Wednesday, police said in a statement.

Most of the seizures were made during routine vehicle inspections at the Khankawn check gate on the outskirts of Champhai, a key transit point for vehicles travelling towards Aizawl, it said.

Another seizure was made at the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Zokhawthar.

In the first case, Champhai police intercepted a passenger identified as Lalhriatzuali (23), a resident of Champhai's Dinthar Veng locality, at around 12:30 pm, the statement said.
