MHA directs GitHub to remove Jack Dorsey's Bitchat source code
Guwahati, July 24 -- The Ministry of Home Affairs' Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has issued a takedown notice to GitHub seeking the removal of three webpages linked to Bitchat, the Bluetooth mesh messaging application created by Block CEO and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.
The action comes after the app was reportedly used by protesters at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar during demonstrations demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Dorsey shared screenshots of the government notice on X on Friday, claiming that the Indian government wanted the technology removed. "..the government of india does not like technologies like bitchat and wants it taken down," he wrote.
