Meghalaya to pass resolution banning uranium mining: CM Conrad Sangma
Guwahati, July 16 -- The Meghalaya government will introduce a formal resolution opposing and banning uranium mining in the state, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said on Thursday, reiterating that his government has never approved uranium extraction.
The announcement comes amid renewed speculation over the possibility of uranium extraction in Meghalaya.
Clarifying the government's position, Sangma said the proposed resolution would formally reaffirm the state's long-standing opposition to uranium mining and remove any ambiguity on the issue.
