Guwahati, May 1 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced a series of welfare initiatives on International Workers' Day, Friday, May 1, aimed at improving the lives of construction workers and recognising their contribution to the state's development.

The initiatives were launched to mark the occasion and focus on social security, skill development, education, and digital access for workers and their families.

Under the CM LIGHT scheme, eligible workers will receive Rs 5,000 as direct financial assistance. The government also introduced the Startup Toolkit Support Scheme to help skilled workers become self-employed by providing necessary tools.
