Guwahati, April 12 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday inaugurated a shelter home for destitute and abandoned women at Mawiong Rim, while announcing a grant of Rs 25 lakh from the Chief Minister's Special Development Fund (CMSDF) to support its functioning.

The facility, named Nabon Memorial Home, has been set up by the Jingiaseng Kynthei Shillong Ri-Lum Presbytery under the Shillong Ri-Lum Presbytery. It aims to provide safe shelter, care, and rehabilitation support to vulnerable women in the region.

The home is named in honour of Ka Nabon, regarded as the first Christian woman in the Khasi Hills. Calling the naming a meaningful tribute, Sangma said it reflects "courage, faith, and service."
