Guwahati, Aug. 21 -- The East Khasi Hills district administration has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) ahead of a proposed protest rally by the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) on Friday.

The move comes amid recent violence in Shillong during a KSU rally, with the administration stepping up security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.

Security personnel have been deployed at the proposed protest locations, while authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance across Shillong.

The imposition of Section 163 restricts the gathering of large crowds and is aimed at maintaining public order during the protest programme.
