Imphal, Sept. 13 -- The Manipur government on Sunday appealed to the Campaign for Justice and Fair Delimitation (JFD) to withdraw its ongoing agitation demanding the closure of Central and state government offices over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update.

Addressing a press conference at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, government spokespersons MLA Th. Radheshyam Singh and MLA Sapam Ranjan Singh urged the group not to compound the public's hardships.

Radheshyam noted that the State Assembly has already reaffirmed its resolution to conduct the NRC using 1951 as the base year before proceeding with the Census. This resolution has been formally conveyed to the Union Home Ministry.
