Imphal, April 23 -- Manipur on Thursday commemorated Khongjom Day, paying homage to the heroes of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla leading the state-level observance at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex in Thoubal district.
The Governor laid wreaths at the memorial atop Kheba Hill, joined by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Ministers, legislators and members of the public, in a solemn tribute to those who laid down their lives defending Manipur's sovereignty.
The ceremony was marked by full military honours, including a Guard of Honour, General Salute, Reverse Arms, the sounding of the Last Post and a two-minute silence. A gun salute was also accorded in memory of the martyrs.
