Imphal, July 25 -- The United Naga Council (UNC) has petitioned the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) to intervene against unilateral land transfers, cross-border violence and extrajudicial executions.

The apex Naga body in Manipur seeks an urgent halt to an alleged plan to cede indigenous ancestral territory to Myanmar.

In its memorandum, the UNC urged UN Special Procedures mandate holders to halt the unilateral exchange of territory in the Chandel/Kabaw Valley sector and freeze the re-demarcation at Choro Khunou pending Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC).
