India, March 19 -- In the wake of a recent grenade attack, security forces in Manipur have stepped up counter-insurgency operations, arresting six suspected militants, including a woman from different outfits over the past 48 hours.

The intensified crackdown follows a blast at the residence of Yumkhaibam Homendro, Chief Engineer of the State's Water Resources Department. According to police, a hand grenade, allegedly hurled by members of an underground group, exploded at the gate of his residence in Malom Tuliyaima under Nambol police station in Imphal West district at around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The explosion caused partial damage to the gate, but no casualties were reported.
