Guwahati: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has stated that its mandate is strictly limited to providing healthcare services and that it has no involvement in the transportation of patients or the deployment of security personnel, following unrest at the hospital over the treatment of three injured youths.

The clarification comes after protests erupted within the hospital premises on Monday, triggered by allegations from demonstrators that three patients receiving treatment were militants. The situation escalated into a confrontation, prompting security forces to use tear gas and carry out a baton charge to disperse the crowd.
